The foundation’s cleaning team with the support of localities has installed 70-100 dustbins near the beach area to reduce the use of non-biodegradable waste.

Goa: With hills in the background and bounded by the blue water of the Arabian Sea, Anjuna Beach in Goa is a perfect spot for beach and adventure lovers. Amongst the most popular beaches in Goa, Anjuna has a rich past of hippie culture. The beach in Goa is an ideal choice for nature-buffs, who love to enjoy full moon parties during the New Year and Christmas season.

Tourists on this very day rejuvenate themselves in a pleasurable atmosphere of the lucent full-moon casting a magic charm and the soft frothing waves snuggling their feet. All these bring a complete package of fun after the sunset.

Being an attraction-hub for tourists, the beach came up with a cost of getting polluted. Plastic, sewage, and other pollutants do more than just ruin the beauty of the beach. They are closing down coastal areas, destroying marine life, and making people seriously sick. Plastic waste is becoming a severe problem, primarily because of the tendency to dispose of plastic casually, without evaluating its adverse impact.

Since, the beach pollution rate is alarming at its peak Aahwahan Foundation took a step forward by initiating its “Mega Beach Cleaning Drive” in cooperation with EPICOR India, at Anjuna Beach, Goa to help save marine life. The Beach Cleaning Campaign took place today where the team with advanced technology & equipment like- sand cleaning machines fulfilled its mission of making the beach plastic-free.

The foundation’s cleaning team with the support of localities has installed 70-100 dustbins near the beach area to reduce the use of non-biodegradable waste. Till now, the Aahwahan Foundation has successfully carried the beach cleaning drive in 10 Cities namely- Mumbai, Chennai, Puri, Balasore, West Bengal, Digha, Murudeswar, Karnataka, Kochi & Visakhapatnam.

The campaign started at 8 AM morning, where the NGO and its team of 100 volunteers aware the local public/tourists about personal actions like- avoiding plastics which can go a long way in reducing beach pollution.

One of our greatest natural resources has become a garbage dump—and the results are taking a toll on human and marine health. Tonnes of pollution end up on the beaches each year, and the majority of it comes from human activities along the coastlines and inland. Understanding the devastating effects of pollution on the beaches is the first step to fixing the problem.

Litter such as cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic bottles, and soda cans are simply left behind by beachgoers/tourists. More indirectly, residential or commercial trash that is not properly disposed of, eventually impacts the beaches & rivers and streams carry it to the beach.

Braja Kishore Pradhan, Founder, Aahwahan Foundation said that “We are committed to converting passion into protection and we are trying to ensure that clean beach is accessible for all to enjoy. We are Asia’s No 1 beach-cleaning foundation delivering long-lasting solutions to the threats our beach ecosystem faces. The beaches belong to human society- the present generation and the generations that follow”.

Aahwahan Foundation sincerely believes to offer a global service to environmental issues and immensely supports the government’s initiative of making “Bharat Swachh“. Eradicating the plastic pollution that is an eyesore to your beachfront is this foundation’s forte. They believe beaches are for the public to enjoy, and it is also the public’s responsibility to help keep them clean.

There are easy everyday steps one can take to help reduce ground leaching of chemicals and toxic materials, reduce carbon emissions, and protect marine wildlife.
